One Planet Living is an international initiative that aims to make sustainable living affordable, attractive and easy through working with partners to support the creation of sustainable products, services and communities.
Fulcrum Consulting is providing advice on building services and sustainable design in connection Blocks E & F, part of the Brighton New England Quarter and in order to achieve our clients vision for developing and create a new community which enables residents to lead sustainable lifestyles from day one and into the future.
The project comprises the construction of 2 residential towers housing 172 dwellings, with office and community space on the 2 lower floors all totalling an approximate area of 11000m². Brief compliance required 'excellent' rating for residential units (ECOHOMES) and the commercial units (BREEAM).
Fulcrum’s scope was to advise on and develop an repeatable and robust environmental strategy that would achieve the clients vision of a zero carbon development. The scheme includes use of a biomass wood chip boiler. A district heating system linked to consumer thermal interfaces providing hot water and fresh air heating system with heat recovery in each residential unit. Exposed concrete soffits provide thermal mass and bypass damper allows summertime purge and night venting. A community ESCO will be established to maintain and run the onsite renewables, bulk buy grid delivered REGO energy direct from the supplier and operate the metering and billing of all services.
