  FULCRUM LAUNCH NEW EPC INDUSTRY BRIEFING NOTE

Following on from the Energy Certification for Buildings presentation in January '08, Fulcrum are launching their Energy Certification for Non-Domestic Buildings industry briefing note as part of our expanding online KnowledgeBase Published Papers.

This briefing note provides an overview of the processes and impacts of the Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) and Display Energy Certificates (DECs) being introduced in England and Wales in response to the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). it is intended as an informative guide to improve understanding of the legislation and its implications.

With the first phase of EPCs coming into force from April 2008, this is perfect timing to distribute it to existing clients and wider industry. Please feel free to email it out to your contacts.
 
 
 
  HOWE DELL SCHOOL - GROUND-BREAKING 'ECO-SCHOOL' OPENS

Howe Dell School. The first building in the UK to incorporate Interseasonal Heat Transfer (IHT). Developed by ICAX and implemented in conjunction with Fulcrum Consulting with funding from the Carbon Trust. In addition, it is the first interseasonally heated and cooled building using shallow earth storage that we are aware of anywhere in the world.

  RICHARD SHENNAN AT THINK '08
Fulcrum Director Richard Shennan joins a panel of experts to discuss future needs and models of supply and production at Think '08. Think will stir up the sustainable energy debate with ‘Re-thinking Energy’, a roundtable discussion which tackles the issues around energy use in the built environment. The roundtable will be held in Dockland’s ExCeL Centre on Wednesday 7th May 2008 as part of Think’s extensive conference programme. The roundtable will focus on how future energy needs will be satisfied for buildings and developments, and whether there are any models for creating community systems and frameworks to radically change the supply and production of energy.

  CHANI LEAHONG JOINS DEBATE AT THINK '08
Are today's engineers the new architects?
"Yes", says Peter Sharratt, director at WSP, "If we want to meet the challenges of sustainability". "No", says Sheppard Robson’s Alan Shingler, "Because one solves problems, the other adds beauty".

Shingler and Sharratt will be joined in a debate at Think '08 on Wednesday 7th May 2008 at 1.15pm by James Pickard, director, Cartwright Pickard and Chani Leahong of Fulcrum Consulting and Sponge. The debate will be chaired by BD’s editor, Amanda Baillieu.

Sustainable Development network Sponge launched the ‘Buyers Guide to a Greener Home’ at a well-attended London’s Living Room, GLA Building, on Monday 18th February 2008. Speakers at the event included Oliver Health (Eco-Designer from BBC's 'Changing Rooms'), Jim McClelland (Editor Sustain Magazine) John Lovell (Head of Sustainability Drivers Jonas) Sonny Masero (Managing Director ESD/Camco UK) and Fulcrum Consulting Senior Associate Chani Leahong. The Buyers Guide to a Greener Home provides prospective homebuyers with the information and advice they need on the features to look for and what questions to ask when buying a home. ANDY FORD APPOINTED AS A PROFESSOR IN ZHENGZHOU UNIVERSITY
Fulcrum's Andy Ford has been appointed as a Professor in the ZhengZhou University of Light Industry in ZhengZhou, China
(October 2007). ZhengZhou is a large and renowned university which has engineering as its mainstay, but has diversified
into such fields as science, liberal arts, economics, management and law and currently has over 18,000 students.

STEPHEN HAWKING BUILDING SHORTLISTED FOR LARGE PROJECT OF THE YEAR

FULCRUM NAMED ONE OF THE 'STAR PERFORMERS' FOR THE CIBSE 100 DAYS OF CARBON CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN.
The 100 days kicked off on 5th June, and ran until 12th September. The campaign was aimed at getting companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in as many ways as possible.
